What is a Project Life Cycle?

A project’s life cycle is series of phases from the start to the completion of a project.

Common Project Life Cycles:

Predictive (Waterfall)
Useful when historical data is readily available, known and understood by stakeholders.
Adaptive (Agile)
Best used for new projects with limited or unknown historical data should have frequent iterations.
Hybrid
A team with some known and unknown data areas may benefit from a combination of both a predictive and adaptive approach to managing the project, a hybrid life cycle.
Iterative/Incremental
Best used for a project with a well-defined project scope. Cost and Schedule may change as different project phases ae completed. Iterations are a series of repeated cycles while increments tend to add to the overall functionality of a product or service.
